To be completely honest, Taylor Swift was (was) an artist I liked and nothing else. My current playlist didn't include her, even if I loved "Shake it Off", which was part of my playlist at the time I traveled with my little daughter to the Algarve and back in holidays. I loved "Bad Blood", "Blank Space", "New Romantics" and "You Need to Calm Down".
Many people I look up to, adore her, which, unconsciously, made me a little more interested in her work. Often, what stands out from their comments is, in addition to the music, the quality of her lyrics.
At this point, I can say, on social networks, especially on TikTok, there are many videos of her "Eras Tour". All I have seen is a sample of a gigantic, titanic production and more than 3 hours of concert, even in the rain!!! All this passed me by because I had never been involved in the world of Taylor and her "Swifties".
In the middle of the scrolling, a live performance left me speechless. The song is part of her last album "Midnight," that I love, and it's called "Vigilante Shit".
Vigilante Shit
Watching this performance live, I even got some "hot flashes". I never thought I'd see Taylor Swift give such a sexy and daring performance. I must say that it was what made me think that maybe Taylor Swift wasn't just country or romantic songs, which I like, and that her repertoire could be much more interesting. And then I dove into her world and WOW! What world!
Let's start with the songs that I liked because they were hits in every way.
In 2014, taken from her 1989 album, "Shake It Off" made the whole world dance.
Shake it Off
It's still spectacular. Max Martin and Shellback were awesome producers. I even liked the lyrics that showed that Taylor Swift had some derision and a sense of humor. I feel related to the end of the video. I can see me dancing with everybody.
The second from the same album, "Blank Space" featured a jealous and completely unhinged Taylor. At the time I liked it, once again, because she showed a great ability to joke with her worst critics, especially about her relationships. The production continues to be brilliant.
Blank Space
With "Bad Blood" we come to my favorite song so far. The video is spectacular and the "stars" that are part of the video give an image of someone very dear among their peers, even if the song is about a feud with Katie Perry. Well, "Olivia Benson" and Cindy Crawford were enough for me. Kendrick Lamar, who I adore, is very good in this song.
Bad Blood
"New Romantics" is One of my favorites and underrated.
New Romantics
1989 (Taylor Version) is out on 27 october 2023 and i will wrote about it. I will speak about "Out of the Woods" at the time. I fall in love with this song. What a song!!!!!!!
From "Lover", "You Need To Calm Down" was a big deal to me. I love the lirycs and the video. The video have also people that i adoro like Ellen. The vídeo was a statement at the time were Donald Trump was Presidente. She enters American politicts by suporting the democrat candidat for the Midterms and after also. Well done! You can see everything on the documentary "Miss Americana" on Netflix.
You Need To Calm Down
There are still songs that accompanied me from Taylor Swift, but this "Eras Tour" has allowed me to unwittingly drop into Taylor Swift's live performances and discover amazing music. Some not ready for it. Literally. I'm going to do some more in-depth research on her music, because if I never understood the fascination of millions of people around the world, throughout the period that Taylor Swift covered awards after awards, it's clear that there's something about her music that will be worth it. To know. I'm going to continue with another revelation that fell on my ears, and that I didn't want to believe it was possible for Taylor Swift to sing a song like this.
… Ready for It?
"No I don't". I chose the "Reputation Stadium Tour" performance because that's where I first heard this song. A great song, with a powerful production, a heavy beat and soft moments that embody the image of Taylor Swift. It's interesting and new for me to hear her rap. The lyrics are daring, and once again the production emphasizes the lyrics and makes some moments very sensual with the "backing vocals" in the ears. We are in a "Dark" environment that implies that she is more than present and alive and ready to live a new relationship.
Before continuing, it is important to explain the context behind the release of the album "Reputation", which was released after some controversy with her well-known boyfriends, Kanye West and Kim Kardashian, which led her to lock herself up at home and flee the spotlight and media for a long time. In this video, Beyoncé was of a great class! Enclosed an article on the evolving situation between Kanye West and Taylor Swift.
It should be noted that "Ready for It" is the second single and for me, I didn't like the first "Look what you make me do" very much, and maybe it was for this reason that I didn't stumble upon this incredible song and, ultimately, this huge album.
Look What You Made Me Do
Well, even if I understand Taylor Swift's intention with this song, it didn't fill me up musically, but the video is exceptional. Once again, Taylor Swift's decision and intelligence resonate in the expression of what she feels - the end of the video is proof of that. Therefore, as this track had to be the first and I didn't like it, I didn't continue with the other songs that came out, and I must say that it's a pity.
Well, the third song to come out was "End Game". What to say? It's the same wave as … "Are You Ready?", hearing Taylor come in with a strong R&B production and rapping, sensationally, especially in her third verse. Incredible!
End Game
The third song on the album is "I did Something Bad" and continues with a very strong production. The lyrics are clearly a response to her detractors and critics, there's nothing to add. There's no disliking the content. The snake turned out to be the album's image. Interesting because Taylor Swift is a snake in Chinese astrology. She is smart, resilient with a great sense of humor and assertive in everything she does. A big woman!
I'm going to choose the interpretation she did at the AMAs in 2018 because it's the best version of the song!
I Did Something Bad
The music on the album is amazing in its own right, but, this version, OMG!
With "Don't Blame Me" Taylor takes us to church to deliver a sermon on her freedom to write about relationships however she wants. A very well done quest. The production is once again extraordinary.
Don´t Blame Me
"Delicate" is one of my favorite songs. On the album there are many people that Taylor references, but with "Delicate" you understand that there is someone who made her think about her past life and clearly wants to be in her "actual" life. Beautiful lyrics.
Delicate
The lyrics of "So it Goes" Taylor Swift are jovial and naughty. Yes, Taylor Swift grew up to be a woman and claims her happiness in every domain. "We Can Feel It"
So it Goes
"Gorgeous" is the continuation of "So it Goes", it is evident that the person is the same. Here, the lyrics emphasize the first time she saw him and also that she can't help thinking that he's really cute and that in the end she want to take him home with her cats… I chose this live performance to highlight the work of the backing singers. They are simply wonderful. Everything is Gorgeous.
Gorgeous
"Gateway Car" is a very interesting and, in fact, very fun song based on the story of Bonnie & Clyde. She runs away from one relationship with someone to enter another, just to have a reason to leave the other. A very strange love triangle. She gets into the car, but she knows in advance that it won't be for long. The look at the end of this performance says it all. Now they are all friends (almost). Jack Antonoff is incredible.
Getaway Car
"King Of My Heart", Taylor is a passionate and happy woman. Once again the production is extraordinary. I like this music a lot.
King Of My Heart
"Dancing With My Hands Tied" is an amazing song. There are so many theories for this song. There are theories for everything, and that's what makes fandom for Taylor such an interesting part of her career. To me, it's a song about someone she appreciates or appreciated very much and the fear of losing this person. The lyrics are very beautiful and the production…
Dancing With My Hands Tied
"Dress" is a song about her relationship with her boyfriend, I think, but there are so many theories... The world of Taylor Swift and her fans is fascinating. She thought, imagined this someone taking off her clothes, her dress. She was in love with whoever this person was...for sure!
Dress
"This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things" is my least favorite song on the album, even so, the lyrics are interesting. Notably, Taylor Swift wrote a song on her album "Speak now," "Innocent", referring to her forgiving Kanye West for what he did. A nice gesture, however, shortly afterward other situations with him and his wife followed. The lyrics are once again "accurate"
This Is Why We Can Have Nice Things
"Call It What You Want" is again about her boyfriend and how she try to balance her personal life, within her stormy life, which ended up to be what is the most important for her. She disappeared for more than one year from social media. Worth sharing what she said about this song: - "The way I feel the album is, as far as a storyline, is I feel like it starts with just getting out any kind of rebellion, or anger, or angst, or whatever. And then, like, falling in love, and realizing that you kind of settle into what your priorities are, and your life changes, but you welcome it because it’s something that matters to you. And this last part of the album feels like settling into where I am now. So it started with where I was when I started making the album and ends with kind of my emotional state now. And this song, I think, really reflects that probably the best on the album, and it’s called 'Call It What You Want'." Taylor Swift
"New Year's Day" is a beautiful ballad that ends the album. It's a little apart from the energy of the album, but it has beautiful lyrics. It's about the day after the party when who stays to help clean up the house. This person who wants to share her days, whether good or bad.
New Year´s Day
The album "Reputation" was not nominated for the "Album of the Year" at the Grammys in 2018. How was that possible?
She won Favorite Pop/Rock Album, Best Tour and Artist of the Year at the American Music Awards. She made an appeal in one of her speeches for people to vote.
This message turned out to be about the "Reputation" album that I love. I'm waiting for Taylor Swift's version. "Don't Change anything".
She, however, is re-recording her first 6 albums because the rights that belonged to the Big Machine label were sold to a businessman and manager named Scooter Braun. Clearly it went wrong. Now, every record she made that is hers has it in parentheses (Taylor's Version). Great move by Taylor Swift. He has already remade "Fearless", "Red" and "Speak Now". Missing "Taylor Swift", "1989" and "Reputation". She is the artist of the moment. She is everywhere.
I must say, my days and nights are being Taylor Swift, and I am loving every moment of it. Going from "Reputation" to "Lover" and then "Folklore", "Evermore" and "Midnight", all excellent albums, cannot be taken lightly. I will make each one a message and also, it will be interesting to go through the old albums. Lots of work ahead. "She's Coming" is worth it!
The "Reputation Stadium Tour" concert is on Netflix, go check it out!
